International Nuclear Information System of the IAEA – INIS

The International Nuclear Information System of the IAEA – INIS is the leading database in the world in the field of peaceful utilization of nuclear science and technology, containing over 3 million documents and includes information on all issues related to nuclear power and applications – science, technology, energy, medicine, ecology, law and others.

The INIS information system is intended for scientific staff, students, lecturers and other specialists working in a vast field of issues.
The access to the system in Bulgaria is implemented through a NATIONAL INIS CENTRE.

National INIS center

 

The Bulgarian National INIS Center is part of the International Nuclear Information System (INIS). The center is responsible for entering into the database documents published in Bulgaria and reports from conferences or other events held in our country and all sources of information. The Center provides information to users in the country. The national INIS center is located in the premises of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency in Sofia. The national INIS center selects processes and disseminates information on all matters related to the peaceful utilization of atomic energy, as well as some economical and ecological aspects of the non nuclear power industry. The end product of the CD-ROM system contains retrospective information dating back as far as 1976 and is updated every three months. The information center carries out searching in other nuclear database through the Internet.

Library

 

The NRA library which is situated in the National INIS Center has at its disposal more than 2500 items, mainly IAEA publications.
The following periodical Bulgarian and Russian magazines are received in the library, namely: “Power industry”, Radiography and radiology, Reports by the BAS, Reports by the Bulgarian nuclear society, Bulgarian journal of physics, Science, Atomic Energy, Foreign atomic technology, Radiation biology and radioecology, Nuclear and radiation safety, Nuclear measuring and information technologies, Information bulletin of the Federal service on ecological, technological and nuclear regulation

Information service

 

The center for international nuclear information carries out topical searching in the field of application of sources of ionizing radiation, nuclear power, ecology problems of nuclear and non nuclear power, radiology and nuclear medicine and others.

INIS database

 

Conventional literature – articles from magazines, books and other sources. Availability of library index and abstract of the document.
Non-conventional literature – reports from conferences, seminars and others, other reports, patents and hard to access sources. Availability of library index and information how to obtain the full text of the document.
Searching in other nuclear database through the Internet
Possibility to borrow printed matter from the NRA library – mainly IAEA publications
Possibility to apply for acquisition of INIS information database and full texts on CD
