The Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) and the NRA started a joint program for nuclear safety

On 19th and 20th of January 2010 at the NRA headquarters was held an opening meeting under the regional program between the Republic of Bulgaria and Norway on excellence in Safe Nuclear Energy. It was decided that the KzNPP should accomplish the necessary preparation for carrying out an IAEA Mission for assessment of safety culture (SCART) which will be held in March 2011. The IAEA Mission will be carried out under the KzNPP project K-1: Improving the safety culture at the operating organization.

Under the frames of the project between NRPA and NRA was also foreseen a joint emergency planning exercise, which will be in cooperation also with the IAEA.

Four projects were also discussed under the program, which aim is to improve the level of nuclear safety in Bulgaria during the meeting in which participants from the NRPA, IAEA, NRA and KzNPP took part.

During the meeting was held also the first session of the Joint Operational Committee of the program, in which took part leaders from the NRPA, IAEA, NRA and KzNPP. The steering committee approved the schedules for the implementation of the projects and the indicators, as well as discussed administrative procedures regarded to the accomplishment of the program.
