Bulgaria hosted the International conference “Radiation protection in medicine”

The chairman of the NRA Dr. Sergey Tzotchev took part in the International conference “Radiation protection in medicine” which was held from 1st to 3rd September 2010 in Varna.
The National Centre of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection was organizer of the event, in partnership with the NRA, the Bulgarian Society of Biomedical physics and engineering, foundation “Roentgen”, Bulgarian Association of Radiology and the Medical University – Varna.
Radiation protection in radiotherapy, X-ray and radionuclide diagnostics is a subject of extreme attention to the IAEA, the World Health Organization, the European Commission and the competent authorities in this field.
Recently, major efforts are made in Bulgaria to increase the radiation protection of the patients during radiotherapy, x-ray and radionuclide diagnostics. A substantial progress is achieved in creation and implementation of modern legislation for regulation and control of radiation protection in medical exposure.
Representatives from 30 countries including experts of the IAEA, the EC and the WHO took part in the international conference devoted to this subject. The participants in the conference shared their experience in the field.
