IAEA Workshop on the Use of Safety Assessment to Prioritize the Regulatory Inspection Findings

From 2nd to 5th May 2011 a Workshop on the Use of Safety Assessment to Prioritize the Regulatory Inspection Findings was held in the Headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. Workshop is organized within the National Project “Further Upgrading of the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency for Nuclear and Radiation Safety” of the Technical Cooperation Program of the IAEA.
The Program of the Workshop covered main elements of the international practices in the field of conducting of inspections and methods used for assessment of the fact findings as well. Review of the existing IAEA’s Safety Standards covering Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessment was examined and major elements of reactor oversight process were discussed. Evaluation principles in inspection outcomes, ranking of Periodic Safety Review findings, oversight process in the field of Emergency Preparedness and operator qualification and re-qualification were broadly discussed. Current practices for evaluation of the inspections conducted by NRA were presented as well.
Invited lecturers for the Workshop were experts from IAEA, USA and Croatia.
