Event description:

The NRA emergency centre was notified that on 8th March 2010 the portal radiation monitoring system of the “Aurubis Bulgaria” S.A. – Pirdop detected elevated radiation level in a scrap loaded truck, transporting colour metal scrap from “CMR” – Turkey.

The immediate detailed measurements have shown elevated radiation levels between 3.5 and 5.5 µSv/h on the side of the truck. As a reference, the values of the natural gamma background in the area are between 0,10 and 0,15 µSv/h.

After a consultation with the NRA and with the assistance of the “Security” department of “Aurubis Bulgaria”, it was ordered the truck, together with its load, to be transported back to its deliverer in Turkey.

*The final assessment by the NRA on the level of the event according to INES is announced following the receipt of the final report on the results from the investigation and the analysis of the event, according to art.12 of the Regulation for notification.
